MY MARGINALIZED EXISTENCE IN EXILE. THE STORY OF THE LIVING TIBETAN SPIRITS

LIVING TIBETAN SPIRITS. MY MARGINALIZED EXISTENCE IN EXILE
Living Tibetan Spirits who inhabit my consciousness know the experience of my marginalized existence in exile. I am alive without Freedom or Free Will to choose. I can narrate my story either as a Blessing or a Curse. In my belief, when the man suffers, the Lands gets cursed. As the desire for Freedom is the root cause of my pain and suffering, how can I receive the Blessings of Peace? Living Tibetan Spirits. Marginalized Existence in Exile. Uncertain ground: The politics of Tibet’s geography is so contested that even a map of the region could land the publishers in trouble. Madhu Gurung’s deeply researched anthology Tibet With My Eyes Closed, evokes the history, culture, and identity of a community that is at risk of being forgotten Sixty years ago, Chinese occupation forced the 14th Dalai Lama to flee Tibet and seek refuge in India. Thousands of Tibetans followed him, giving up a nomadic, agrarian life for a marginalized existence in exile. The 11 stories that make up journalist Madhu Gurung’s anthology Tibet With My Eyes Closed are true accounts of displaced Tibetans trying to find salvation in the midst of heartbreaking loss. Dehradun-based Gurung has worked with organizations such as Oxfam, UNIFEM, BBC, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Her first book The Keeper of Memories, historical fiction on the Gorkhas, was shortlisted for the Shakti Bhatt First Book Award in 2016. The author, whose mother was Tibetan, seems driven by a passionate need to inform. She begins the book with a background to Tibet, which instinctively makes me seek out a map. That’s when the irony hits home. We are talking of such fraught geography that even an innocuous map of the Tibetan region can land publishers in trouble!
Living Tibetan Spirits. My Marginalized Existence in Exile. Tibet With My Eyes Closed: Stories Madhu Gurung Speaking Tiger Non-fiction ₹350 Prayer flags of five colors — blue, white, red, green and yellow — representing the five core elements of space, wind, fire, water, and earth respectively are synonymous with Tibetan Buddhism. The stories in this anthology have been divided under the colors of the prayer flags and have some elements of the colors woven into their background. The author has also added an insightful introduction explaining the significance of the flags and how the elements have inspired her stories. However, the associations feel somewhat tenuous and I found myself wondering whether it was necessary to divide the contents as well as feature an introduction to explain the division. The anthology opens with stories of refugees besieged by memories of home as they try to regain their lives under a foreign sky. It then transitions to the experiences of a new generation of Tibetans born and brought up in India, carving out their paths and identities in the new land. Mid-way, one learns of the tragic guerrilla wars that the Tibetans waged for their homeland from the windswept Mustang Plateau in Nepal. Towards the end, it speaks of the human ability to persevere and dream of possibilities, despite great odds. References to the Chushi Gangdruk, the guerrilla Tibetan army that waged war against the Chinese, and the 22 Establishment, a secret force of Tibetans recruited by India in the wake of its humiliating defeat in the Sino-Indian war of 1962, appear several times across the book. However, sufficient variety is provided by the stories of a Tibetan man’s pursuit of an Indian passport, of a young man who gives up monkhood to embrace his sexual identity and of a grieving old widow who finds solace in stray dogs. Tibet with my Eyes Closed is not an unputdownable page-turner. It is a compilation of stories laced with facts and observations that compel the reader to pause. The author takes no shortcuts in her effort to build narratives that are not only immersive but also greatly illuminating. However, in places, the details seem extraneous. For instance, in the story, Tibet With My Eyes Closed, the author speaks of Tibetan poet, writer and activist Lhasang Tsering whose poem inspired the title of this anthology. She writes about how he is greatly influenced by the saint and poet Milarepa who is revered in Tibet for his songs. But she doesn’t end there. She writes of how Tsering was born exactly 900 years after Milarepa and how his songs have also been translated in English, in a book called the Shambhala. Such additions appear somewhat forced, as the story would read much the same without them. I was fascinated by the author’s journey to Mustang in pursuit of former Chushi Gangdruk warriors, as documented in the story, In the Footsteps of Buddha’s Warriors. Not only is it a testament to the author’s keen research but also to the undaunted commitment to her subject. Unlike the other stories in this anthology, In the Footsteps of Buddha’s Warriors and Amala, which is a memoir of the author’s mother, are both personal accounts. This prompted me to wonder whether it might have been better to have them as part of a longer introduction that spoke of the experiences driving the author’s writing. These, however, are minor misgivings about this much-feted collection that has been endorsed by several prominent personalities. I just wished, though, that all these endorsements had been kept on the back cover or some of them shifted inside, to leave the reader with more room to admire the striking cover painting and design by Vikram Singh Verma. With the sky and mountains in shades of red against a monastery in tones of black and white, the cover is deeply atmospheric and stirring. If the role of literature is to create empathy and build understanding, Tibet with My Eyes Closed succeeds amply. It is an important piece of literature about a people and region, that, as Shashi Tharoor puts it in his endorsement, ‘are at risk of being forgotten’. THE WORKPLACE SIN REMOVAL AND THE SIN DISPOSAL SERVICE. THE NEW SCAPEGOAT TRADITION

SIN REMOVAL AND SIN DISPOSAL SERVICE-THE NEW SCAPEGOAT TRADITION:
WHOLE TEAM - WHOLE LABOR - SCAPEGOAT TRADITION: THIS BLOG POST IS RESPECTFULLY DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF WILLIAM TYNDALE(1494-1536), ENGLISH RELIGIOUS REFORMER, TRANSLATOR OF THE BIBLE AND A PROTESTANT MARTYR. HE COINED THE PHRASE "SCAPEGOAT" IN 1530. Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service-The New Scapegoat Tradition: THIS BLOG POST IS RESPECTFULLY DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF WILLIAM TYNDALE(1494-1536), ENGLISH RELIGIOUS REFORMER, TRANSLATOR OF THE BIBLE AND A PROTESTANT MARTYR. HE COINED THE PHRASE “SCAPEGOAT” IN 1530. Here is the most exciting news for ‘Whole Team’ Members. You will be able to safely and securely deposit all the blame for all your mistakes on the head of your designated “SCAPEGOAT.” WHOLE TEAM - WHOLE LABOR - SCAPEGOAT TRADITION: VERY EXCITING NEWS FOR ALL 'WHOLE TEAM' MEMBERS. I HAVE CHOSEN MYSELF AS THE OFFICIAL "SCAPEGOAT" OF THE 'WHOLE TEAM'. MEMBERS CAN SAFELY AND SECURELY LAY THE BURDEN OF BLAME AND SIN UPON MY HEAD AND I WILL DELIVER THE SIN IN A DESERT AND DISPOSE OF ALL YOUR FEARS AND WORRIES TO ENSURE YOUR HAPPINESS AND EXCELLENCE. Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service-The New Scapegoat Tradition: VERY EXCITING NEWS FOR ALL ‘WHOLE TEAM’ MEMBERS. I HAVE CHOSEN MYSELF AS THE OFFICIAL “SCAPEGOAT” OF THE ‘WHOLE TEAM’. MEMBERS CAN SAFELY AND SECURELY LAY THE BURDEN OF BLAME AND SIN UPON MY HEAD AND I WILL DELIVER THE SIN IN A DESERT AND DISPOSE OF ALL YOUR FEARS AND WORRIES TO ENSURE YOUR HAPPINESS AND EXCELLENCE. Please note that the sins must be placed over the head and not the rest of the body of Scapegoat. As a ‘Whole Team’ Member, my primary concern is about your Happiness and Excellence at the Workplace. But, we have to accept the realities of life. WHAT IS SIN? In common usage, the word ‘Sin’ refers to the blame attached to any behavior or action that is not acceptable to established standards. At the Workplace, there are over one hundred rules of conduct and behavior; the terms and conditions for workplace behavior and conduct are explicitly stated. It is not easy to avoid blame or ‘sin’ while you work for wages or salary. The workplace often uses a scoring system by awarding points for each type of misconduct and the points earned will invariably lead to corrective action which includes dismissal from service. My idea is not about changing workplace terms and conditions for employment. I am proposing an original plan for ‘Sin Removal’ and ‘Sin Disposal’ Service that will promote the ‘Whole Team’ Member’s happiness to boost up the wage earner’s excellence in the performance of the workplace tasks. WHOLE TEAM - WHOLE LABOR - SCAPEGOAT TRADITION: TO PROMOTE 'WHOLE TEAM' MEMBER HAPPINESS AND EXCELLENCE, I AM PROPOSING DESIGNATING MYSELF AS THE OFFICIAL "SCAPEGOAT" OF THE WHOLE TEAM. THIS BIBLICAL TRADITION WILL TAKE REBIRTH IN A NEW FORM SAVING TEAM MEMBERS FROM BLAME AND SIN. Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service-The New Scapegoat Tradition: TO PROMOTE ‘HAPPINESS AND EXCELLENCE AT THE WORKPLACE, I AM PROPOSING TO DESIGNATE MYSELF AS THE OFFICIAL “SCAPEGOAT” OF THE WHOLE TEAM. THIS BIBLICAL TRADITION WILL TAKE REBIRTH IN A NEW FORM SAVING TEAM MEMBERS FROM BLAME AND SIN. My proposal for ‘Sin Removal’ and ‘Sin Disposal’ Service would have the following features: 1. An Official “SCAPEGOAT” of the Whole Team, 2. An Official ‘High Priest’, a designated ‘Team Leader’ or a designated ‘Facility Team Leader’ who is given the powers by the Employer to “TRANSFER” the blame and sin of any given employee and place it on the head of the “ScapeGoat”, 3. An official designated day of ‘Atonement’ or on the “Team Member Appreciation Day”, the “ScapeGoat” will be dispatched to the Desert to safely and securely dispose of all the blame and sin, and 4. On successful conclusion of the Mission, “ScapeGoat” returns to the workplace from the Desert. WHOLE TEAM - WHOLE LABOR - SCAPEGOAT TRADITION: SCAPEGOAT - ESCAPE GOAT IS A BIBLICAL TRADITION THAT AIMS AT REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF BLAME AND SIN FROM A GROUP OF PEOPLE TO PRESERVE THEIR HAPINESS AND WELL-BEING BY SAVING THEM FROM PUNISHMENT OR RETALIATION. Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service-The New Scapegoat Tradition: SCAPEGOAT – ESCAPE GOAT IS A BIBLICAL TRADITION THAT AIMS AT REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL OF BLAME AND SIN FROM A GROUP OF PEOPLE TO PRESERVE THEIR HAPPINESS AND WELL-BEING BY SAVING THEM FROM PUNISHMENT OR RETALIATION FOR THEIR SINFUL CONDUCT. We have to carefully understand the Biblical principles and practices to save people from punishment and harsh retaliation for their sinful conduct and behavior. While the Bible recommends a very rigid conduct code, it uses a flexible approach while giving punishment. Bible does not always demand punitive or retaliatory action while it deals with the problem of sinful conduct. The Old Testament Book of ‘LEVITICUS’, Chapter 16, verses 7 – 26 gives a very detailed description of the practice called “THE DAY OF ATONEMENT.” The Bible gives the man a second chance, a chance to atone, redeem, and save himself for his shortcomings. It is very interesting to find that the Bible has devised a mechanism to transfer the sins of an individual, or even a large group of individuals and place the burden on the head of an innocent creature whose life is spared while it finds an opportunity to dispose of the sins in a place far away from the community. “But the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the LORD to be used for making atonement by sending it into the desert as a scapegoat(Leviticus 16:10).” Further, the Bible carefully describes the entire practice by which sin can be transferred. “He(the High Priest) is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites – all their sins – and put them on the goat’s head. He shall send the goat away into the desert in the care of a man appointed for the task. The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a solitary place; and the man shall release it in the desert(Leviticus 16:21-22).” It is very clear that the Bible does not intend to punish or retaliate against the scapegoat which is used for Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service and Bible insists that the life of the scapegoat must be protected by appointing a man for the task of dispatching it into the wilderness or desert. WHOLE TEAM - WHOLE LABOR - SCAPEGOAT TRADITION: I AM APPLYING THE BIBLICAL PRACTICE OF ATONEMENT TO SAFELY TRANSFER THE SINS OF WHOLE TEAM MEMBERS ON TO THE HEAD OF A DESIGNATED SCAPEGOAT WHILL WILL CARRY THE BURDEN AND SAFELY DISPOSE OFF THE SIN IN A DESERT. IN THIS ENTIRE OPERATION, THE SCAPEGOAT WILL NOT BE EXPOSED TO ANY HARM TO ITS OWN LIFE AND WELL-BEING. Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service-The New Scapegoat Tradition: I AM APPLYING THE BIBLICAL PRACTICE OF ATONEMENT TO SAFELY TRANSFER THE SINS OF WHOLE TEAM MEMBERS ON TO THE HEAD OF A DESIGNATED SCAPEGOAT WHICH WILL CARRY THE BURDEN AND SAFELY DISPOSE OF THE SIN IN A DESERT. IN THIS ENTIRE OPERATION, THE SCAPEGOAT WILL NOT BE EXPOSED TO ANY HARM TO ITS OWN LIFE AND WELL-BEING. I am applying the Biblical Tradition of Atonement to solve the problems of our Whole Team Members at the workplace. These hourly wage-earners who make a living on their labor or physical exertion deserve some help to get rid of the burden imposed by citations that they receive for violations of the workplace code of conduct and behavior. It should be understood that these workplace violations may not imply the violation of State or Federal Laws and may not be reported as State or Federal Crimes. We need a flexible approach and we need a corrective action that may include the opportunity to transfer the blame and sin accrued by an employee to a blameless employee and give the employees the second chance. My proposal for Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service is unique and is the first of its own kind. In the entire US history, no person has ever shared my concept of protecting happiness and excellence in the workplace performance of employees by simply transferring, removing, and safely disposing of the sin burden by literally using another blameless employee as a “ScapeGoat.” To protect the life and well-being of the “ScapeGoat” the Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service needs refinement of the Biblical practice. WHOLE TEAM - WHOLE LABOR - SCAPEGOAT TRADITION: TO PROVIDE THE SIN REMOVAL AND SIN DISPOSAL SERVICE, I HAVE CHOSEN THE DESTINATION FOR THE RELEASE OF THE SCAPE GOAT. THE DESERT NEAR THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS IN NEVADA IS AN IDEAL CHOICE FOR THE EXECUTION OF THIS IMPORTANT MISSION. Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service-The New Scapegoat Tradition: TO PROVIDE THE SIN REMOVAL AND SIN DISPOSAL SERVICE, I HAVE CHOSEN THE DESTINATION FOR THE RELEASE OF THE SCAPEGOAT. THE DESERT NEAR THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA IS AN IDEAL CHOICE FOR THE EXECUTION OF THIS IMPORTANT MISSION. The Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service using the “ScapeGoat” is a vital Mission for ensuring the productivity and efficiency at the workplace as the employees cannot find happiness and excellence if they have to shoulder the burden of sin for violations of the code for conduct and behavior determined by the employer. At the same time, it must be realized that the “ScapeGoat” is not a sacrificial goat. I have carefully selected the desert near Las Vegas City, Nevada as the destination of the “ScapeGoat” to release its burden of sins in the wilderness. WHOLE TEAM - WHOLE LABOR - SCAPEGOAT TRADITION: FOR MY SIN REMOVAL AND SIN DISPOSAL SERVICE I HAVE CAREFULLY CHOSEN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA WHICH HAS ALREADY ESTABLISHED ITS REPUTATION AS "SIN CITY." Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service-The New Scapegoat Tradition: FOR MY SIN REMOVAL AND SIN DISPOSAL SERVICE I HAVE CAREFULLY CHOSEN THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS, NEVADA WHICH HAS ALREADY ESTABLISHED ITS REPUTATION AS “SIN CITY.” There are several tactical advantages in choosing Las Vegas as the destination of the “ScapeGoat” to dump its burden of sin. Las Vegas has clearly established its reputation as “Sin City” and hence the City cannot object or restrict the Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service that involves using the desert near Las Vegas. Secondly, the City promoted itself using the Slogan, “WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS, STAYS IN VEGAS.” WHOLE TEAM - WHOLE LABOR - SCAPEGOAT TRADITION: I SELECTED LAS VEGAS, NEVADA FOR EXECUTING MY SIN REMOVAL AND SIN DISPOSAL SCAPEGOAT MISSION. THE CITY IS KNOWN AS "SIN CITY." SECONDLY, WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS STAYS IN VEGAS. THE SIN DUMPED IN VEGAS JUST STAYS THERE FOREVER. Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service-The New Scapegoat Tradition: I SELECTED LAS VEGAS, NEVADA FOR EXECUTING MY SIN REMOVAL AND SIN DISPOSAL SCAPEGOAT MISSION. THE CITY IS KNOWN AS “SIN CITY.” SECONDLY, WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS, STAYS IN VEGAS. THE SIN DUMPED IN VEGAS JUST STAYS THERE FOREVER. For the successful execution of my ScapeGoat Mission, it is important that the sin that is removed and disposed of must not return to the workplace. Las Vegas makes an open commitment and promises that “What Happens In VEGAS, Stays In VEGAS.” THE BIBLICAL LEGEND ABOUT “ESCAPED GOAT”: WHOLE TEAM - WHOLE LABOR - SCAPEGOAT TRADITION: THE PHRASE "SCAPEGOAT" HAS A VERY INTERESTING STORY RELATING TO ITS USAGE.IT IS DERIVED FROM THE HEBREW WORDS SAIR+LA+AZAZEL WHICH MEANS HE-GOAT + TO + DESERT DEMON. THE GOAT THAT LEAVES OR RELEASED IS ALWAYS A HE-GOAT AND IT ALSO IMPLIES THAT THE FEMALE-GOAT HAS ALREADY ESCAPED OR LEFT. HEBREW. EZ + AZAL WHICH MEANS FEMALE-GOAT LEFT. Sin Removal and Sin Disposal Service-The New Scapegoat Tradition: THE PHRASE “SCAPEGOAT” HAS A VERY INTERESTING STORY RELATING TO ITS USAGE. IT IS DERIVED FROM THE HEBREW WORDS SAIR+LA+AZAZEL WHICH MEANS HE-GOAT + TO + DESERT DEMON. THE GOAT THAT LEAVES OR RELEASED IS ALWAYS A HE-GOAT AND IT ALSO IMPLIES THAT THE FEMALE-GOAT HAS ALREADY ESCAPED OR LEFT. HEBREW. EZ + AZAL WHICH MEANS FEMALE-GOAT LEFT. HE-GOAT IS AN EMISSARY AND IT IS RELEASED WITH THE EXPECTATION THAT IT WILL MEET SHE-GOAT AND TRANSFER THE BURDEN OF SINS. The phrase “ScapeGoat” was coined by William Tyndale in 1530. Tyndale was an English reformer and translator of the Bible. His work is the basis for the Authorized or King James Version of the Bible of 1611. But, unfortunately, he was executed for heresy in 1536. He could not get the chance or fortune to be a “ScapeGoat” and he carried the burden for the faults of the Church and its Clergy. The phrase combines Scape + Goat and it is probably derived from Latin. Caper Emissarius which means Emissary Goat, or Greek. Tragos Aperchomenos which means Departing Goat. In Hebrew tradition, the phrase is derived from “Sair Laazazel” which means a “Goat that Leaves.” But, the Hebrew word “AZAZEL” also refers to the name of a ‘Desert Demon’. In Hebrew, the phrase was coined to imply that the “ScapeGoat” is always a He-Goat and that the “She-Goat” or “EZ + AZAZEL had already left or escaped. The Emissary Goat or the Departing Goat has a purpose for it is sent to the wilderness to meet “AZAZEL” the Escaped She-Goat or its transformation, a Desert Demon. There is some connection between the Escaped She-Goat and the Desert Demon. To seek atonement, the Hebrew tradition is placing the burden of sins on a He-Goat and then releasing it in the desert or wilderness where it may have the opportunity to find the She-Goat or the Desert Demon which may eventually accept the burden of Sin delivered by the He-Goat. In my view, the safe and secure Sin Removal, and Sin Disposal Service may need an unknown Desert Demon or a She-Goat or a Female Deity who specializes in disposing of the burdens of human Sin. NO FOREIGN GOVERNMENT CAN APPOINT THE SUPREME RULER OF TIBET

Tibetan government passes a resolution on ‘reincarnation of Dalai Lama’
Tibetan parliament-in-exile speaker Pema Jungney. Photograph:( ANI ) Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India Oct 06, 2019, 04.47 PM (IST) In a strong message to China, Tibetan government-in-exile has passed a resolution reaffirming that the successor of Dalai Lama will be chosen by the spiritual leader himself and no nation has locus standi on the issue. “No nation, government, entity or any individual can claim to recognize the reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The final authority on decisions regarding the reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama rests indisputably and completely with His Holiness the Dalai Lama himself and the concerned authorities of the Gaden Phodrang Trust,” Speaker Pema Jungney, Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, told ANI on Saturday. The resolution comes days ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India. Jungney made these remarks after a special meeting by Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile-at the Tibetan headquarters. During the meeting, the two-page resolution was adopted which outrightly rejected China’s preposterous interference in the institution of Tibetan reincarnation and affirms the supreme authority of the Dalai Lama over Tibetan Buddhism. The official document further challenged China’s advancing measures of control over Tibetan Buddhism and expressed outright rejection and contempt of the Order Number 5, a regulation issued in 2007 by China’s State Administration of Religious Affairs (SARA) for the so-called “management of the reincarnation of living Buddhas”. The meeting was attended by 340 Tibetan authorities representing the three pillars of Tibetan democracy: The Kashag (cabinet); Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission. STORY HIGHLIGHTS The resolution comes days ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India.
The Supreme Ruler of Tibet cannot be chosen by any foreign government.

TAKE A FRESH LOOK AT THE VIKAS REGIMENT, SPECIAL FRONTIER FORCE.

TAKE A FRESH LOOK AT THE VIKAS REGIMENT, SPECIAL FRONTIER FORCE
Ms. Madhu Gurung in her book, “Tibet With My Eyes Closed” takes a fresh look at the Tibetan Resistance Movement in India. Rudra Narasimham Rebbapragada SpecialFrontierForce
Review: Tibet With My Eyes Closed by Madhu Gurung A fresh look at the experience of Tibetan refugees in India Thubten Samphel Hindustan Times
The Dalai Lama speaks at a Tibetan temple in McLeod Ganj.(Shyam Sharma/Hindustan Times)
There is a new interest in Tibet and Tibetan culture amongst the Indian public. This is because of the Dalai Lama’s tireless efforts to reach out to the Indian public to alert them to the relevance of ancient India’s wisdom in our vexing times. There is also whispered foreboding of what would happen to the Tibetan community in India and elsewhere and the fate of Tibet itself when he is no longer what us. Tibet With My Eyes Closed is a fresh look at the experience of the Tibetan refugees in India and the pain of separation of families and being uprooted from their homeland. It is also of a story of how the community as a whole faced and still faces the challenges of adaption and survival. In her exploration and discovery of the Tibetan refugee community in India, Madhu Gurung quotes an old Tibetan proverb. “If I tell you my dream, you might forget it. If I act on my dream, perhaps you will remember it, but if I involve you -- it becomes your dream too.” Madhu Gurung’s dream of the Tibetan community in exile is a gentle paring of the community’s many layers of strength, weakness, human quirks and the need to survive as an individual and community. The author kicks off her Tibetan story by narrating in broad contours the birth of the resistance movement in Tibet in the 1950s. This resistance relocated to Mustang in Nepal and then fought in Bangladesh’s war for independence. Some scholars call the Tibetan soldiers who fought in the war “Phantoms of Chittagong.” Sangay, the main protagonist in Gurung’s first story Zinda, was a little boy when members of his family whispered the formation of the resistance in central Tibet. He expressed his wish to join the resistance. He was told to wait until he became thirteen. Then, “You … will be of some use to them.” Tibetan resistance grew not only because of repression and forced land distribution but also because of the implementation of the Great Leap Forward with its excessive stress on industrialization to the neglect of agriculture and production of food. This created the biggest famine in Chinese history and Tibet was caught up in this man-made disaster.
Madhu Gurung ( Courtesy the author ) Sangay and his father, leaving with excruciating pain other family members, including his mother, behind in Tibet, were able to escape this political disaster and the great famine. In India “everything was strange – the language, the food, and the people.” At school, he got a greater shock, a huge dent to his Tibetan pride and sense of self and identity. He discovered that the Tibetans were the ‘nowhere’ people. His schoolmates did not know where Tibet was. However, during the period of ‘liberalization’ which the post-Mao leader Deng Xiaoping initiated in China and Tibet, Sangay was able to return to Tibet and bring his mother to their new home in Dehradun auspiciously named Zinda. Shakti Gurung informs the readers that Sangay’s home village in Tibet called Zinda which the author says in Hindi means “Alive.” That Sangay survived all these ordeals is a tribute to his character and his generation of Tibetan refugees. Back in the late 1950s while on their way to Lhasa, someone in his group shouted: “Lhasa is burning.” These days rather than burning Lhasa is drowning in concrete, amazing infrastructure development and the sheer weight of the growing demographic strength of the migrant Chinese workers. Tibet With My Eyes Closed is a cautionary tale for the countries and people strung along the Himalayan belt. You might be next may be an exaggeration but exaggeration is not enough to describe the true intentions and scale of the People’s Republic of China’s ambitions. The book is also a cautionary tale for the coming generation of Tibetan exiles. They inherit a cohesive and productive community scattered across the globe, a legacy of the first generation of Tibetan refugees. Keeping its cohesion and productivity will be a huge challenge in the coming years of adversity. Thubten Samphel is an independent researcher and a former director of the Tibet Policy Institute

Mysticism vs Intuition. Which comes first? The Chick or the Egg?

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ART OF KNOWING Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ART OF KNOWING: WHICH HAS COME FIRST ??? THE CHICK OR THE EGG ??? SPIRITUALITY IS NOT ABOUT KNOWING THE BEGINNING OR THE ENDING OF THINGS. IT IS ABOUT THINGS THAT EXIST IN THE PRESENT. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ART OF KNOWING: When I write about Man as a Spiritual Being, the concern is not about glorifying people as saints. The issue is about man’s true or real nature. My theory of Spirituality is about “The Art of Knowing” that can provide tools to all people to know themselves in an objective manner. This is a simple challenge that can be accomplished without forcing people to attend church or any other place of worship. The Art of Knowing does not involve what most people tend to recognize as spiritual practices such as Prayer, Meditation, Yoga, or Mysticism. The Art of Knowing simply involves training people to know what they know about others or about themselves. It must be noted that Life is essentially a state, a condition, or an act of knowing. WHOLE INTUITION VS WHOLE MYSTICISM: Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ART OF KNOWING: HENRI BERGSON(1859 – 1941), FRENCH PHILOSOPHER, WAS AWARDED THE 1927 NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE. HE DESCRIBED INTUITION AS THE HIGHEST FORM OF KNOWING. Henri Bergson, French philosopher, Professor at the College de France, was awarded the 1927 Nobel Prize in Literature. His famous works include Time and Free Will(1889) and The Creative Mind(1934). Bergson’s dualistic philosophy holds that the world contains two opposing tendencies, the life force and the resistance of matter against that life force. The individual knows matter through intellect but through intuition perceives the life force and the reality of time, which is not a unit of measurement but duration in terms of life experience. Bergson considered intuition to be the highest state of human knowing and held that mysticism is the perfection of intuition. Bergson emphasized the value of intuition in scientific thinking and argued that reality is beyond rational understanding. He formulated a Theory of Knowledge in which intuition plays a central role. He contended that the expansive and creative thrust of Life explained by the Darwinian mechanism. Bergson claimed that ‘Evolution’ is creative and is not based upon mechanistic principles. For similar reasons, I shared my arguments to oppose Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. I formulated my theory of ‘The Law of Creation and Individuality’ for all known living things primarily exist as Individuals with Individuality and they have no choice other than that of existing as Individuals. In this article, I would like to recognize the ability to know as a basic cognitive function and this biological characteristic can be attributed to a popular term called ‘Spirit’ or ‘Soul’. In this context, I would like to interpret Bergson’s views about Knowing, Intuition, Mysticism, and the Reality of Time. Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ART OF KNOWING: HOW DO PLANTS KNOW WHAT THEY KNOW ??? PLANTS KNOW ABOUT LIGHT, THE LENGTH OF DAY, AND THE DURATION OF DARKNESS CALLED NIGHT. THERE IS NO “INTELLECT” INVOLVED IN THIS PROCESS OF KNOWING. THE ABILITY TO KNOW LIGHT OR PHOTORECEPTION IS EXPLAINED BY PHOTOCHEMISTRY. Intuition provides the immediate understanding and it describes the ability to perceive or know things without conscious reasoning. Intuition is about direct knowing or learning of something without using the faculties of mind such as Intellect. The doctrine of Intuitionism claims that things and principles are truly apprehended by Intuition. The doctrine called Ethics describes that fundamental moral principles or the rightness of acts are apprehended by Intuition. In Biology, I would like to use the term Intuition to things apprehended by ‘Innate Knowledge’, the Knowledge that is inherent and not acquired, the Knowledge that is implanted in the Substance or Material called Living Matter. Plants know Light not because of intellectual ability but on account of innate ability or intuitive power. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ART OF KNOWING: AT A FUNDAMENTAL LEVEL, LIFE AND LIVING IS ABOUT KNOWING MATTER AS SELF OR NON-SELF. THIS IDENTIFICATION OF MATTER INVOLVES THE ABILITY TO RECOGNIZE MOLECULES OF MATTER. TO LEARN THE ART OF KNOWING, MAN HAS TO KNOW ABOUT THE MOLECULAR BASIS FOR EXISTENCE. To learn the Art of Knowing, man has to know that the physiological basis for existence is dependent upon Innate Knowledge with which the human organism recognizes matter( such as molecules of Oxygen, or energy-yielding molecules of food substances) and further exploits matter and energy to support and maintain its living functions. To the same extent, the human organism defends its own existence by recognizing the molecules as Self or Non-Self. The immune defense mechanisms that the human body uses to recognize viruses, bacteria, protozoa, and other foreign antigens involve the recognition of molecules. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ART OF KNOWING: WHAT IS THE MYSTERY OF LIFE ??? CAN MYSTICISM HELP TO KNOW THE HIDDEN TRUTHS ABOUT LIFE ??? WHAT IS THE MYSTICAL INFLUENCE OF TIME THAT DRIVES THE AGING PHENOMENON ??? What is the Mystery of Life ??? Can Mysticism help to know the hidden truths about Life ??? Mysticism is the doctrine about knowing reality through intense contemplation and other secret practices that involve mental concentration. Mysticism is found in several religions of the world. The criteria and conditions for mystical experience vary depending on the cultural traditions, but there are three common attributes of Mysticism: 1. The experience is immediate and overwhelming, divorced from the common experience of reality, 2. The experience or the knowledge imparted by it is self-authenticating, without the need for further evidence or justification, and 3. The experience is ineffable, its essence incapable of being expressed or understood outside the experience itself. The focus of Mysticism is not about the physical reality called existence but it is about a direct and immediate experience of the sacred or the knowledge derived from such an experience. Mysticism is about the practices of those who are initiated into the mysteries, the practice of putting oneself into direct relation with God, the Absolute or any Unifying Principle of Life. Mystics believe that it is possible to achieve communion with God through their mystic practices. There are two general tendencies in the practice of Mysticism; 1. To regard God as outside the ‘Soul’ which rises to God by successive stages, and 2. To regard God as dwelling within the ‘Soul’ to be found by delving deeper into one’s own reality. Mysticism is extended to Magic, Occultism, and the Esoteric. Magic may involve the use of charms, spells, and rituals in seeking or pretending to cause or control events or govern certain natural and supernatural forces. Occultism is about hidden, concealed, and secret information that could be beyond human understanding. The Esoteric is about confidential, private, or withheld information that is intended for or understood by only a chosen few and as such the knowledge or information is beyond the understanding of most people. The rituals of Mysticism include meditation, prayer, and a variety of ascetic disciplines. If Mysticism is about Knowing the Secrets of Life, it does not demand the learning of Human Anatomy or Human Physiology or any of the principles of Biology. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ART OF KNOWING: HOW DOES THE HUMAN ORGANISM KNOWS ABOUT ITS OWN LIFETIME ??? THE AGING PHENOMENON IS RELATED TO MAN’S PERCEPTION OF TIME. HOW IS TIME CONTROLLING OR OPERATING LIFE EXPERIENCE ??? Bergson claimed that the Reality of Time is not a Unit of Measurement but duration in terms of life experience. How does the human organism know about its own lifetime??? The human organism experiences the Aging Phenomenon which is related to man’s perception of Time. How is Time controlling or operating life experience ??? The physical reality called existence is controlled, is operated, or is directly influenced by events in man’s external environment, and the most important change in the environment is the alternating periods of light and darkness called Day and Night. Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ART OF KNOWING: THE HUMAN ORGANISM RUNS ITS LIVING FUNCTIONS AS IF OPERATED BY A PRECISE TIMEKEEPING DEVICE OR BIOLOGICAL CLOCK. MAN’S EXPERIENCE OF TIME IS RELATED TO SUN’S APPARENT MOTIONS IN THE SKY. MAN KNOWS THE REALITY OF TIME BECAUSE OF AN ILLUSION THAT CAUSES DAY AND NIGHT GIVING MAN THE PERCEPTION OF SUN’S APPARENT MOTION WHILE CONCEALING THE REALITY OF SUN’S MOTION IN THE MILKY WAY GALAXY. Bergson may have used the term life force to describe the vital, animating Principle called Spirit or Soul. In my view, Soul is an animating Principle for it is fundamentally related to the functional ability called Knowing. The soul is a vital Principle for it is fundamentally related to the functional ability called Nutrition, the power of a living organism to exploit matter found in its external environment. The functional attributes of Soul are related to Knowledge that is inherent or Innate and not acquired as learned experience. Soul describes man’s intuitive ability to know the fact of his own existence in a given environment and to maintain that existence while experiencing the aging process under the external influence called Time. Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE ART OF KNOWING: BLAISE PASCAL(1623 – 1662), FRENCH SCIENTIST AND RELIGIOUS PHILOSOPHER CLAIMED THAT MAN IS INFINITELY REMOVED FROM COMPREHENDING THE EXTREMES; THE END OF THINGS AND THEIR BEGINNINGS ARE HIDDEN. While writing about The Art of Knowing, I would like to remind my readers that certain things could be hidden from human perception and man has no ability to know things even if he knows the reality of those things. Blaise Pascal, the French scientist who founded the modern Theory of Probability had claimed: “Man is a nothing in comparison with the Infinite, an All in comparison with the Nothing, a mean between Nothing and Everything. Since he is infinitely removed from comprehending the extremes, the end of things and their beginnings are hopelessly hidden from him in an impenetrable secret; he is equally incapable of seeing the Nothing from which he was made, and the Infinite in which he swallowed up.” Spirituality is not about the beginning or the ending of things. Which came first, the Chick or the Egg ??? Spirituality Science is not about knowing the Beginning or the Ending of things. Spirituality is about things that exist in the ‘Present’. The Physical Reality of Man’s Subjective and Objective experience of his life is a functional attribute of Soul or Spirit which gives Man the cognitive ability called Knowing. If Devotion is used as a scientific method of Inquiry, ‘The Art of Knowing’ is about Knowing Man as a Spiritual Being. The concern is not about unknown past or future reality. The 'Truth' in any given statement must always have correspondence with present external reality.

THE THANKSGIVING TRADITION OF OCTOBER 03, 1863. ABOLISH SLAVERY

TO GIVE ‘THANKS’ TO THE HIGHEST GOD AMERICAN PEOPLE MUST ABOLISH SLAVERY
To give ‘Thanks’ to the Highest God American people must abolish Slavery. On Thursday, October 03, 2019 I ask American people to give ‘Thanks’ to the Highest God by abolishing Slavery. The United States was transformed into a ‘Slavedriver’ by President Bill Clinton on August 22, 1996, by signing into law the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PL 104 – 193) which denies the opportunity to the alien hourly wage earners to receive the monthly retirement income benefit after attaining the full retirement age of 67 years. In my analysis, an individual who has no right to his property, earnings, or income benefit is a “SLAVE.” Rudra Narasimham Rebbapragada Special Frontier Force President Lincoln proclaims official Thanksgiving holiday
To give ‘Thanks’ to the Highest God, the American People must abolish Slavery. On October 3, 1863, expressing gratitude for a pivotal Union Army victory at Gettysburg, President Abraham Lincoln announces that the nation will celebrate an official Thanksgiving holiday on November 26, 1863. The speech, which was actually written by Secretary of State William Seward, declared that the fourth Thursday of every November thereafter would be considered an official U.S. holiday of Thanksgiving. This announcement harkened back to when George Washington was in his first term as the first president in 1789 and the young American nation had only a few years earlier emerged from the American Revolution. At that time, George Washington called for an official celebratory “day of public thanksgiving and prayer.” While Congress overwhelmingly agreed to Washington’s suggestion, the holiday did not yet become an annual event. Thomas Jefferson, the third president, felt that public demonstrations of piety to a higher power, like that celebrated at Thanksgiving, were inappropriate in a nation based in part on the separation of church and state. Subsequent presidents agreed with him. In fact, no official Thanksgiving proclamation was issued by any president between 1815 and the day Lincoln took the opportunity to thank the Union Army and God for a shift in the country’s fortunes on this day in 1863. The fourth Thursday of November remained the annual day of Thanksgiving from 1863 until 1939. Then, at the tail-end of the Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, hoping to boost the economy by providing shoppers and merchants a few extra days to conduct business between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, moved Thanksgiving to November’s third Thursday. In 1941, however, Roosevelt bowed to Congress’ insistence that the fourth Thursday of November is re-set permanently, without alteration, as the official Thanksgiving holiday. https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/lincoln-proclaims-official-thanksgiving-holiday A&E Television Networks
