THANKSGIVING DAY 2018 – NO MAN IS AN ISLAND UNTO HIMSELF

THANKSGIVING DAY 2018 – NO MAN IS AN ISLAND UNTO HIMSELF

E29FC02B-D56E-4579-9ADF-9B2515DBF154.jpg

On Thursday, November 22, 2018, Thanksgiving Day, I want to share my thoughts on the 'Social' dimension of man's existence in the natural world. Man's mental health and well-being are determined by his ability to formulate harmonious social relations. Man uses food and drink as tools to develop and to sustain his social relationships. But, man's interconnectedness goes beyond the boundaries of societal relationships.

In my analysis, the singular reality called Man represents a biological or biotic community of independent, individual cells apart from trillions of individual microorganisms that man hosts by providing them food and shelter all the time.

The Tradition of Thanksgiving Day

The tradition of Thanksgiving Day – Man lives by giving Thanks during all days of his life.

In the United States, Thanksgiving is an annual holiday observed on the fourth Thursday of November. It is a day of feasting, and it often serves as a public expression of thanks to God in the form of a prayerful eating of food. It commemorates the Pilgrims' celebration of the good harvest and a friendly relationship between Plymouth Colonists and Native Americans in 1621. The first national Thanksgiving Day, proclaimed by President George Washington was celebrated on November 26, 1789. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln made Thanksgiving an annual holiday.

GRATITUDE IS AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT

The word "Thanks" is used to acknowledge the feelings of gratitude for a benefit that we have received; grateful acknowledgment of something received by or done for one. Giving thanks is an act that reveals the spiritual nature of a relationship between two or more entities involved in interactions. The term 'spiritual' describes the nature of a relationship, partnership, an association, or bonding between two living entities based upon characteristics such as cooperation, mutual assistance, tolerance, sympathy, compassion, voluntary subservience, and functional subordination to provide some benefit to the members of a biotic community participating in the biotic interactions at a given place, and in a given environment. The human organism represents a biotic community of interacting living cells. It is estimated that the human body consists of about 100 trillion cells, and the human body carries about ten times as many bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. These microbes are important to the health of humans. The man has no cortical awareness of the colonization of his body by microbial flora and has no direct awareness of the biotic interactions that take place inside his gut. The biotic interactions between the gut cells of the human body and the bacterial cells have the characteristics of spiritual biotic interactions.

CÉLL p'0teins Peripheral protein Of cytoskeleton /NTERioa Integra' grotein Glycoprotein Cholesterol segtrmt of aW1a-heIix protein Alp ha-helix protein Hydroph ,egion

Living cells have a corporeal substance called Protoplasm or Cytoplasm that demonstrates the ability that I choose to describe as Spiritual Biotic Interactions. The Biological Membrane or Cell Membrane separates the cell from its environment and other living cells present in the environment. Cells use unique proteins, biological molecules and receptor sites to recognize the other living cells and use chemical signals to facilitate the interactions. Such interactions between living cells involve cognitive abilities, the characteristics of consciousness or awareness.

The biotic interactions take place at the cellular level and are dependent upon the conscious nature of living cell that gives it the ability to recognize the presence of other living cells in its external environment. The anatomical organ known as the brain does not play any role in these spiritual biotic interactions inside the human gastrointestinal tract. Each time we eat a meal, consume any food or drink, the act of eating gets transformed into 'Thanksgiving'. The man has no choice and has no control over the beneficial effects his eating contributes to the microbial flora of the gut with whom he had established a mutually beneficial social relationship. Whether he likes it or not, whether he knows it or not, man lives by providing a Thanksgiving meal during all the days of his existence. Each meal functions as a serving of 'Gratitude'. While his existence is dependent upon Lord God Creator's Power/Force/Energy known as Mercy, Compassion, Grace, and 'KRUPA', the man may or may not publicly express his thanks in acknowledgment of that Compassion. However, man has no escape from the act of giving thanks and living as a Natural Host to trillions of unknown microbes.

MAN'S ESSENCE AND EXISTENCE – THE IDEA OF THANKSGIVING:

The idea of giving thanks to God is associated with the fact of celebrating the success of a bountiful harvest. Man expresses joy and happiness for success in his physical and mental endeavors. The success is often measured by the gain in material prosperity, social position and public acclaim. The desire for success is often driven by ambition, a craving for a desired object called success. It gives the impression that man would be forced to experience pain, misery, sorrow, and despair if he encounters failure in his physical and mental work. I ask readers to examine the reality or the truth that establishes man's biological existence in the physical world. The man may try his very best to define the purpose of his mortal existence or his Essence in terms of his physical and mental output. Man is conditioned to think that his experience of joy and happiness in life is a simple product of his physical and mental work. In my opinion, man is conditioned by Fear, the fear of failure in his struggle for Existence. When properly examined, it must be recognized that human existence primarily involves what may be called Divine Grace, Mercy, and Compassion or Providence. Human Existence shows the characteristics of a design, or plan to achieve a desired goal or objective. For man need not struggle to keep his existence, there is no need to fear and man has no reason to strive to avoid failure in life. When the expectation about failure is emptied from the mind, man liberates himself from the thoughts of fear. In the absence of fear, and in the absence of the expectation of failure, man finds the experience of a living condition that is characterized by Peace, Harmony, and Tranquility. Without the experience of peace, harmony, and tranquility in the living condition, there will be no true or real joy and happiness in life. The Freedom from Fear, the lack of concern about an outcome that could be called Failure gives the man a true ability to give Thanks to God for His benevolent guidance. Today, in giving Thanks to God, I want to proclaim my Victory over Fear, the Fear of Failure in my life.

I extend my best wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving Day to all of my readers.

China's BRI will lead to subjugation of Tibet

Washington, Nov 18: China's Belt and Road initiative will lead to colonization, subjugation of Tibet and exploitation of natural resources in the region, the head of the Tibetan Government in exile has said.

Touted as Chinese President Xi Jinping's ambitious project, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) focuses on improving connectivity and cooperation among Asian countries, Africa, China and Europe.

China's BRI will lead to subjugation of Tibet

Lobsang Sangay

"Tibet is the blueprint of the BRI. Our experience with the road initiative connecting China with Tibet has not been good," Lobsang Sangay, the president of the Central Tibetan Administration told PTI in an interview during his visit to Washington DC this week.

"One road lead to hundreds of roads in Tibet now, routes, and one railway is leading to three or four railways. One airport led to 30 airports six military airfields. Conveniently, all these roads, railways and airport are connected to haul out natural resources and minerals from Tibet," he explained.

This, he said, is very damaging to water, air and land of Tibet.

"For us, one road leads to the colonization of the Tibet, one road leads to extraction of all kinds of minerals and natural resources. Hence, for us, the one road leads to net loss," Sangay said in response to a question.

Making a strong case against China's ambitions BRI initiatives, Sangay in his interaction with the American leadership told them they need to see what happened with Tibet due to the BRI. He told the American leadership that the world should learn from the Tibetan experience so they can avoid it.
"That's my advice," he said.

There should be no border dispute between India and the People's Republic of China as they do not share a common border. The problem of China's military occupation of Tibet should be addressed by the global community of nations to secure Peace, Security, and Justice in South Asia.

Tibet should be one of the core issues for India, says Lobsang Sangay (Reuters)

Tibet should be one of the core issues for India as China is trying to "influence" all of its neighbours, Lobsang Sangay, the head of the Tibetan government in exile has said. China insists Tibet has been part of its territory for centuries, but many Tibetans say they were essentially independent for most of that time. The Dalai Lama fled to India in 1959 amid an abortive uprising against Chinese rule in his Himalayan homeland.

Sangay, who is currently here, has met a number of senior US administration officials, congressmen and senators and members of the think-tank community like the Hudson Institute. Explaining his quest for India making "Tibet a core issue", Harvard educated Sangay said that after the occupation of Tibet, the People's Liberation Army has now moved near the border of India.

"Now they are influencing all of India's neighbours, from Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. It is a reality now," he said in an interview to PTI.

India and Tibet have had historically, cultural and civilizational ties for hundreds of years, he said, adding Tibet is the source of water for India and South Asia. "For these reasons, Tibet is very important for not just India, for the whole of South Asia and ASEAN countries too. Hence, Tibet should be one of the core issues for India," Sangay said.

"China has already said Tibet is one of the core issues. So, India should also table Tibet as one of the core issues and address this issue with Tibetan people in mind," he said. Responding to a question, Sangay said that the people of Tibet are following the middle way approach by seeking "genuine autonomy within the framework of the Chinese constitution". "This is the reasonable moderate line," he said.

For that there should be a dialogue between the envoys of the Dalai Lama and the Chinese Government, he said. He sought the revival of a dialogue that happened between 2002 to 2010. "We think, that kind of dialogue will lead to the resolution of the Tibetan issue," he said.

THE DALAI LAMA LIFE CYCLE – THE CYCLICAL FLOW OF TIMES

THE DALAI LAMA LIFE CYCLE – THE CYCLICAL FLOW OF TIMES

The photo images that capture the physical appearance of the 14th Dalai Lama may relate to just one stage of the Dalai Lama Life Cycle. As per Tibetan faith and belief, the 14th Dalai Lama is the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama. The Dalai Lama Life Cycle started in 1391 centuries before their individual lifespans.

Frame by frame: Photographer Raghu Rai's book on the 14th Dalai Lama is personal, deep and immersive

Dalai Lama

By Priyadarshini Nandy

Raghu Rai's book captures the many shades of the Tibetan spiritual leader

Raghu Rai's latest book – A God in Exile: The Fourteenth Dalai Lama – focuses entirely on the Dalai Lama in his various moods and moments – be it when he's interacting with his followers or simply unwinding. The series of black and white photographs are in no particular order, but it gives readers a glimpse into the life of the spiritual leader that Rai has witnessed over three decades. "He has an aura about him, one that can probably be felt for kilometers around him. He can see through you. We are truly lucky to have him in our lives. To me, he is a rare individual," Rai adds.

But the two weren't always so familiar. Before meeting the Dalai Lama in 1975, Rai's knowledge of the man was pretty much limited to a book. "I had read My Land, My People (the Dalai Lama's autobiography). It's one of the most understated books I'd read in a while. Powerful, and moving – it sort of makes you feel responsible towards the people of Tibet. I knew that he was their spiritual leader, someone who brings out the Buddha in you… and that was pretty much it," Rai says.

All that was going to change, when Rai was sent to Ladakh by The Statesman, to cover a three-day teaching session by the Dalai Lama. Little did Rai know back then that his relationship with the Dalai Lama was going to deepen over the years, and turn into a long-lasting friendship.

He (the Dalai Lama) has an aura about him, one that can probably be felt for kilometers around him. He can see through you. We are truly lucky to have him in our lives

Raghu Rai

"After '75, I met him next only a decade later. I have been wanting to do a book on the Tibetans in exile, and I followed him to Bodh Gaya. But when I reached, I was informed that he was busy with a personal ritual and no one was allowed to disturb him. But I am adamant. I told them I knew him, and I simply must see him. After great difficulty, I was shown to his tent but was told not to enter. I had to insert my camera lens through a gap in the tent to take his photograph. But he spotted me and recognized me. He asked me to come in, and I was allowed to take his photos.

I was there for about four-five days and given complete access," Rai adds.

The end result was Tibet in Exile (1990), with text by Jane Perkins (who's also written for the current book) – a brilliant visual record of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetans who live in exile.

Over time, Rai kept going back to Dharamsala to meet the Dalai Lama.

"I did assignments for various magazines, and every time I went there, I would tell him it was really important. It was gracious of him to give me complete access, and he would even introduce me as his friend." Sharing an old story, Rai says that during one of his shoots at Dharamsala, His Holiness came out from one his prayers, and gave him an off-white stone just before Rai was leaving. "I took it and put it into my camera bag. Many years later, my health worsened. I would feel uneasy and breathless; tired during assignments. What I did then took that stone out and saw there was a small hole in it. I strung a thread to it and began to wear it around my neck. And I went back to work. In the year 2000, Nita (Rai's wife) decided enough was enough and took me to a doctor. I was told that my heart had 90 per cent blockages, and anything could happen at any moment. I would like to believe that the stone is what protected me. I had an open-heart surgery later and my wife and I decided to go to Dharamsala to thank the Dalai Lama. But when I did thank him and told him how his stone had saved my life he laughed and said, "I don't think I can do these things". However, he pulled me into a prolonged embrace before we left, and I felt a kind of energy that I had never felt before. I think he just heals you by instinct. He can feel and smell what's going on in your life."

His Holiness's morning occupation is often rereading Tibetan scriptures

Rai has many such stories to share – about the small jokes the Dalai Lama would crack ever so often; how he would sit in meditation for hours when no one could move him; the way he would interact with the people who had come to take his blessing – and these stories have made their way to this black and white photobook. "I have seen the spiritual connection he has with things. I have seen his compassion. And I have seen his humorous side. Once, I went to photograph him when he was sitting with a group of southeast Asian monks. It was a serious moment. And yet, in the middle of that, he spotted me and asked me why was I wearing a cap. He then asked me to come up to him and tugged at my cap and said "I want to see how much hair you have left", and began to laugh. And with him, so did everyone. He's like that – childlike and innocent," Rai adds.

Interestingly, A God in Exile was not something Rai had planned. "I had seen a book on him by the Swiss photographer Manuel Bauer, and I was jealous. The photographs in the book were amazing. I honestly felt as if someone had stolen my sweetheart from me.

Raghu Rai

Raghu Rai

So I told myself that even I would do a book, and mine would be better. So in 2016, I decided to put my collection of photographs of the Dalai Lama together. I think I can say that my book is now the best one," Rai says with a laughter.

THE REAL IS RATIONAL, AND THE RATIONAL REAL – THE REALITY OF MAN, THE RATIONAL BEING

THE REAL IS RATIONAL, AND THE RATIONAL REAL – THE REALITY OF MAN, THE RATIONAL BEING

5DF0DEA4-DA49-4AEC-BA7B-86E1482ABAEB.jpg

In my 'Theory of Man', I describe the Man as Rational Being beside his six other dimensions, the Physical, Mortal Being, the Mental Being, the Social Being, the Moral Being, the Spiritual Being, and the Created Being.

A2AE4CC3-5273-461A-8DFF-78527F8BDA9D.jpg

In my analysis, Man the Rational Being seeks the verification of the reality of his Subjective and Objective existence by using a Theory of Truth that cannot be refuted.

SPIRITUALITY SCIENCE – THE HEGELIAN MODEL OF DIALECTICS:

72E4465C-2113-4071-AC88-877A986A5B8F.jpg

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel(b. August. 27, 1770, d. November. 14, 1831),German Idealist Philosopher, author of Phenomenology of Spirit or Phenomenology of Mind(1807), Science of Logic(1812-16), and Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences(1817) and other works and lectures. He developed theories of Ethics, Aesthetics, History, Politics, and Religion. He developed a Dialectical scheme that influenced the development of Existentialism, Marxism, Positivism, and Analytic Philosophy.

26CEAD5C-BE03-4E69-B4F5-84CFEF377543.jpg

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel influenced most facets of modern philosophy. At the center of the universe, Hegel posited an enveloping absolute Spirit that guides all reality including human reason. His absolute 'Idealism' envisages a world-Soul, that develops from, and is known through, a process of change and progress termed as the Hegelian Dialectic. The doctrine of 'Idealism' makes the attempt to account for all objects in nature and experience as representations of the mind, and sometimes it assigns to such representations a higher order of existence. According to Hegel, the reality is Absolute Mind, Reason, or Spirit which manifests itself in both natural and human history. His famous dictum, "the real is rational and the rational real", is an expression of the identity of reality and the rational process. Because the reality is rational, it acts in accordance with the laws of reasoning. Hegel suggested that understanding the nature of thought will lead to understanding the nature of reality as a whole. Dialectics is a form of logical argumentation that could be applied to diverse fields including thought, nature, and history. Hegel identified dialectic as the tendency of a notion, or idea to pass over into its own negation as the result of conflict between its inherent contradictory aspects. He developed the concept that Mind or Spirit manifested itself in a set of contradictions and oppositions that it ultimately integrated and united without eliminating either pole or reducing one to the other. According to Hegelian principles, one concept or 'thesis' inevitably generates its opposite or 'antithesis'; their conflict or interaction generates a new concept or 'synthesis' which in turn becomes the 'thesis' of a new triad. Hegel developed a dialectical scheme that emphasized the progress of history and ideas from 'thesis' to 'antithesis' and then to a higher and richer 'synthesis'. His main contribution is that of giving a clear view of reality; Reality can only be understood as a totality, "The Truth is the Whole", and that the attempt to understand the apparently individual and unconnected phenomena of nature, history, and human life through separate categories of thought is utterly mistaken. I would like to endorse his view and submit that Reality must be known as a Whole.

THE MEDICAL DOCTRINE OF DIALECTICAL SPIRITUALISM:

2FEB686A-20E5-466F-B1D5-DBABB19D8C52.jpg

Amoeba proteus and the understanding of Reality as a Whole or the 'Whole Truth'.

To understand the reality of human life, we need to know and understand the Reality of a material substance that is common to all living organisms. This common substance called Protoplasm is found in all living cells including the cells of the human brain, an anatomical organ that is associated with thinking, and Mind the seat of thoughts. However, I ask my readers to know and understand Protoplasm, the substance in which thoughts are generated and reside. I give attention to the Spiritual Nature of this substance and divert attention from Mind and Brain.

Hegel in his book, Phenomenology of Mind or Phenomenology of Spirit has traced the progression of consciousness from sense perception to Absolute Knowledge. In my view, Amoeba proteus is conscious and intelligent. I speak about Spirit or Soul in relation to a material substance called Protoplasm. I would hesitate to equate Mind with Spirit as that would mislead people to think of consciousness and intelligence as the exclusive biological functions of an anatomical organ called the brain. At the same time, it must be clearly understood that the brain and mind perform their specialized functions using the same living matter or substance that is found inside Amoeba proteus. The fact that brain and mind perform very complex functions should not hide the fact of the true or real nature of Protoplasm. There is an inherent conflict in the nature of Protoplasm. It is inherently unstable; the living matter is thermodynamically unstable, and without a continuous supply of energy from an external source, it will dissolve into its constituent inorganic molecules and non-living Chemical Elements. This nature of energy dependence and the risk of its dissolution is the 'thesis' and it is opposed by its potency and potential to remain immutable, or unchanging, the 'antithesis'. Protoplasm is unstable and is stable at the same time. It has survived and has continuously lived on the surface of planet Earth for billions of years after having come into existence. We have an account of several major and minor extinction events and yet Protoplasm has remained and existed without any apparent change in its properties, characteristics, and functions. Protoplasm has demonstrated the potentiality called Imperishability, Indestructibility, Immortality and the ability of Eternal or Everlasting Life. The interaction or conflict between unstable('thesis') and stable('antithesis') nature of Protoplasm has generated a new 'synthesis' called Immortality or Everlasting Life. I call this higher state of existence as 'Dialectical Spiritualism'. Man is a Physical, Mortal Being and his body substance or matter is Perishable. Through the process of Dialectical Spiritualism, the conflict and interaction between the unstable and stable nature of Protoplasm which is a Spiritual substance, man progresses towards his goal of becoming a Complete or Whole Spiritual Being and his body substance will exist in its higher state of existence of  Imperishability. The Medical Doctrine of Dialectical Spiritualism proposes the hypothesis of Man's Immortality or Everlasting Life as a higher state of existence of a mortal or perishable substance that has developed the potentiality and progressed towards its natural goal of Imperishability and Indestructibility.

I use Amoeba proteus as my model to study the Reality as Whole Truth.
